Is Physiotherapy Covered by Alberta Health Care? YES
Get FREE Physio through Alberta Health Services Physiotherapy coverage. AHS physiotherapy provides limited coverage to Alberta residents with a valid Alberta Personal Health Care number. Alberta Health provides a funding cap to our clinic for physiotherapy treatments, therefore patients may be subject to a wait list. ptHealth Sturgeon Valley is a government funded physiotherapy clinic and has the largest AHS cap in St Albert.
Did you know that physical therapy, acupuncture, and massage treatments are covered by most most extended health plans? If you are on the waiting list and you wish to access services immediately, we can directly bill your extended health benefits. Give us a call at (780) 459-5015 and we will direct you to the appropriate resources to find out your coverage. Our clinic can also directly bill your extended health plan to save you the headache of filing all the necessary paperwork for reimbursement.
What Does The Alberta Health Services (AHS) Funded Program Cover?
If you qualify, AHS will cover your initial physiotherapy session and:
- Two treatments per year (April 1 – March 31) for regular patients
- Six treatments per year (April 1 – March 31) for low-income, students, or patients who are receiving a government subsidy
- Six treatments per year (April 1 – March 31) for designated orthopedic/surgical, neurological* and broken bone or fracture** patients.
*There are a certain number of neurological conditions that is under this program, please ask our patient care coordinators if you have any further questions.
**In order to qualify, you must visit pt Health Sturgeon Valley within two weeks of cast removal or six weeks from your surgery. If your physician/surgeon has advised you to attend beyond these time frames, please notify our patient care coordinators on your first visit, in order to ensure physiotherapy coverage. There is no wait for these services and we request that you inform your health team that you have sustained a fracture or undergone surgery prior to your visit.
If you need more than the allotted treatments, the extra visits may be covered by other health benefits or you may pay out of pocket. If you have no other coverage, you can ask your physical therapist to apply to AHS for a review of your case to see if more treatments can be covered. If additional treatments are not approved, you will be responsible to cover the cost.
